Day 1 from JOHANNESBURG to MPUMALANGA / HAZYVIEW / Numbi Hotel

Arrival in Johannesburg, customs formalities and baggage collection. Pick up the reserved car at the AVIS office at the airport and departure for Hazyview in the Mpumalanga region. The route is approximately 460km and the journey takes just under 5 hours. Arrival at the Numbi Hotel in Hazyview, the location of this hotel is very strategic and makes it the ideal place for overnight stays during excursions in the Mpumalanga region.

2nd Day MPUMALANGA / HAZYVIEW / Numbi Hotel

Day at leisure to explore this part of the Mpumalanga region where the towns of Sabie, Graskop and the village of Pilgrim’s Rest are located, where not long before the discovery of the gold vein on which Johannesburg stands, South Africa saw the first gold rush in its history in this area.

In the years 1874-78 over 1500 men mined alluvial gold here worth over £1,500,000!

3rd Day MPUMALANGA & KAPAMA GAME RESERVE/River Lodge

After breakfast, departure for Hoedspruit airport “East Gate Airport” where you will drop off your car at the AVIS office and meet a Kapama ranger who will take you from the airport to the River Lodge. From the Numbi Hotel you must take the R 535 and then the R 532 to skirt the Blyde River Canyon, consult the map given to you with your travel documents. We recommend stopping at God’s Window to admire the fantastic panorama of the Blyde River Canyon, the vast plateau on which Johannesburg rests, which here, along the eastern slopes of the Drakensberg mountain range, drops for over 1000 meters, into green gorges and canyons. Along the way we recommend you do not miss a visit to the Bourke’s Luck Pot Holes and a stop at the viewpoint of the Three Rondavels, the imposing rock formations that dominate the breathtaking scenery.

4th - 5th Day KAPAMA PRIVATE RESERVE

Wake up at dawn for the first of 2 safaris of the day and to admire the rising of the great African sun.

During safaris it is not uncommon to come across the “Big Five” Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants and Buffalo, African mammals considered by hunters to be among the most difficult to hunt.

The 4×4 vehicles provided to the rangers allow them to get close to large and small animals to appreciate them up close in their natural environment in a naturalistic context of great beauty.
Each safari lasts approximately 4 hours.

6th Day from KAPAMA to JOHANNESBURG/BALALAIKA HOTEL

After the dawn safari and breakfast, transfer to Hoedspruit airport to collect the reserved car at the AVIS office and depart for Johannesburg.
The route is about 500 km and the journey takes about 6 hours.

Arrive in Johannesburg and check in at the Balalaika Hotel (Sandton area). For dinner we recommend going to the Mandela Square shopping centre, which is a 5-minute walk from your hotel, where you can find various restaurants.

7th Day JOHANNESBURG – ITALY

Free day to explore Johannesburg.
We recommend visiting the Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City to learn about the origins of the city of Johannesburg and experience the thrill of visiting one of the first gold mines in South Africa (no longer operational) by descending over 200 meters underground to see how the miners once operated.
Scheduled flight to Italy, dinner and overnight stay on board.
